Staff Sergeant Ronald T. Terry served with Detachment B-52, Project Delta, 5th Special Forces Group. He was assigned to Recon Team ROADRUNNER during Operation 2-66 in the An Lao Valley.
On January 29, 1966, after two days in the field, RT ROADRUNNER was forced to split into two groups to evade a superior enemy force. SSG Terry was part of a three-man element with MSG Cecil Hodgson and SSG Frank Badolati when they came under fire from seven Viet Cong soldiers at extremely close range.
SSG Terry was struck and killed during the exchange of fire. His body was not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
