Narrative:
SABER AND SPURS!! What a bunch of BS. We had an Armored Cav LTC
named Moore who was OIC of Delta then. The powers that be, at the
time, heaped untold humiliation on us for being different. But, I
digress.
The FOB was just off the PSP airstrip of an A Camp in lower III
Corps named Bunard. The AO was around the area of the Song (river)
Dong Nai, specifically the area of two long loops in the river
jokingly called the Big and Little Penis'. The area was rather flat
with a lot of bamboo forests and high grass plains. This made commo
good with no mountains and valleys to block transmissions. As I
recall, Nui Bah Den (Black Virgin Mtn) could be seen in the distance
to the SW, rising straight up out of the flatland. The operation was
in full swing by the time I got back in country and MSG Robinette
got me assigned back to B-52, Project Delta. I shouldn't have been
surprised to see an old buddy from 67 still there, SSG Jay Graves.
There were also two old hands I'd only heard legendary stories
about, SFC Andre St. Laurent and SSG Joe Alderman. |
