Eugene Raymond Moreau grew up in Andover, Massachusetts. He enlisted in the United States Army and served with the Special Forces as a qualified infantryman, joining Detachment B-52, Project Delta, 5th Special Forces Group.
SGT Moreau was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with V Device for exemplary courage under fire while serving with Project Delta. The men who earned valor awards in this unit did so under the most extreme conditions imaginable, operating deep behind enemy lines with no possibility of quick reinforcement.
SGT Moreau was killed in action during operations in South Vietnam. He left behind his wife, Bette A. Moreau, and two sons, Troy and Keith. Bette never remarried and passed away on March 19, 2004, which was also Eugene's birthday. He was her true love.
His nephew Craig later visited the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and found his uncle's name. The family's loss echoed across generations, a reminder that the sacrifice of these men was felt not just in the moment but for decades afterward.
