Operation 4-70 (Delta Dagger II) - FOB Mai Loc
06-24-70 - 06-30-70 - Page 2

Narrative:
We got the final word. Clean up the camp, go for stand down, and close out the Project. No more operations. The LLDB hosted a party for us, that we paid for with our own beer and food. They insisted all of us attend. We found out it was just a ruse to try and steal all they could before we left Mai Loc. While we were all sitting in a circle that night and drinking, they sent a couple of their thieves to raid our tents. We were ahead of them and suspected foul play all along. Our watchers spotted them and caught them with cameras, pistols, and other valuables. One even tried to take Jim Reeves' Colt 38 out of the holster on his belt while we were drinking. Jim caught him and was going to whip him. That broke up the festivities.
SFC Brakeman and SSG Roy Sprouse were the last Americans who pulled the last recon mission for Project Delta. We were extracted at 0707 hrs on Tuesday the 9th of June 1970. All the AAR (After Action Report) says is, the mission was curtailed due to friendly operational priorities. What the reality was, is this, there was to be an ARC Light Strike, (B-52s) on a troop concentration we had seen part of while on recon. We were only out two nights.
