The top photo was taken in front of the Head Shed at the Delta Compound in Nha Trang, Jan. 1969. So we at least know this picture was of a flag recognized by some as being the Delta Flag. It is reported to have had a green background and yellow lettering and Delta Symbol. Although none of the old timers or actually anyone but a couple of officers remember their being a Delta Flag, we have concluded that some young officer with nothing but time on his hands designed and had the flags made.
The bottom photo designated as "Old Delta Flag" is housed at the 5th Special Forces Group at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Project Delta Triangular Recon Award Plaque

This style of plaque was issued to members of the Project in 1967. That is when I got mine. This style probably existed before and after for some time but I don't know when.  There were also gold rings issued with the Delta symbol embossed on them. Most were made in Bangkok, Thailand. I had one from 1970 but it was stolen in 1974 in Nakhom Phanom, Thailand.

The strobe light was an essential piece of emergency signal equipment. It was carried in the nylon case which was laced to the upper shoulder strap of the LBE (Load Bearing Equipment) harness. It also had a cord on it to keep from being lost. The clear plastic lens cap was taped around the outside edge with electricians tape in order to direct the flash straight ahead. The strobe lens was placed in the breech of an M-79 or M-203 barrel and directed at an overhead aircraft and turned on. Usually two or three flashes were sufficient to get a 'fix' on your position. This worked in any kind of weather, day or night.

There were two sizes of signal mirrors. Most men carried the larger of the two. The corner hole was for a cord to be attached to the jacket through a button hole so it couldn't get lost. The mirror was carried with the panel folded around it and usually carried in the left breast pocket. The panel around the mirror also kept it from inadvertently being flashed earthward when pulled from the pocket. The aperture in the middle was a sight for beaming the reflected

sun onto an aircraft overhead so it could pinpoint your exact location. This only worked on sunny or even hazy days, but not on overcast days, such as during the rainy (monsoon) season.  - Maurice Brakeman

This photo shows the 2 sizes of signal mirrors and the strobe light with case. They are laid out on a signal panel, bottom folded up to show the two different color sides. One side is a bright pink and the other is international orange. There should be a pen flare with this ensemble but I didn't have one available. The bright panel was used on overcast days, if you could find an opening in the jungle canopy. It was used on extraction LZs for recognition purposes. It was
also used to mark a team's location when calling in tactical air strikes, so the fast movers could see exactly where you were. There have been times that the team would call the strikes directly on the panel because they were being overrun and weren't going to make it out alive unless they were captured.  - Maurice Brakeman

Project Delta Ring (1969-70)

Mine is definitely not the authorized version. There are others like it out there somewhere. Sprouse brought back rings like mine along with other jewelry, having made a trip to Bangkok for them.
The Chinese symbol of death on the top of the ring was recommended by the Project's Nungs.  - Gary Reagen

Necklace Medallions

The medallion is just one of many that the guys wore on stand down. You can interpret it two ways, depending on which side you're looking at. The normal WAR which is self explanatory or RAW which means, "recon always wins". There were others such as the outline of a M26 Frag grenade whose body was the stylized word PEACE; another one was what looked like a "peace" symbol but upon closer examination, was a B-52 bomber dropping bombs.  - Maurice Brakeman

Slot Machine Coins

Front and Back of slot machine coin.  It is the only one in existence that I know of. That was in '67 and the machines were taken out of all clubs between then and 1970. I remember we had slot machines at Camp Holloway in 1963.  - Maurice Brakeman
